Emkit is a progestogen-only emergency contraceptive indicated for the prevention of pregnancy following unprotected intercourse or known contraceptive failure. It is formulated as a two-dose regimen to provide flexibility in clinical administration.
Active Ingredient: Levonorgestrel (0.75 mg per tablet).
Pharmacologic Class: Progestin.
Primary Indication: Emergency contraception within 72 hours of unprotected coitus.
Mechanism of Action: Prevents pregnancy by inhibiting ovulation and increasing cervical mucus viscosity to impede sperm transport.
Administration: Typically administered as one 0.75 mg tablet immediately, followed by a second 0.75 mg tablet 12 hours later (or as a single 1.5 mg dose if directed by a healthcare provider).
Professional Note: Clinical efficacy decreases with increased time post-exposure. If vomiting occurs within two hours of administration, a replacement dose should be considered.
