
Famila is a combined oral contraceptive (COC) pill used for long-term pregnancy prevention and birth spacing. It is formulated as a 28-day regimen, typically consisting of 21 active hormonal tablets and 7 inactive spacer tablets (often containing ferrous fumarate) to maintain a consistent daily habit and support iron levels.
Active Ingredients: Levonorgestrel (0.15 mg) and Ethinylestradiol (0.03 mg).
Pharmacologic Class: Combined Oral Contraceptive (Estrogen + Progestin).
Primary Indications: * Prevention of pregnancy (99% effective with perfect use).
Regulation of the menstrual cycle and reduction of dysmenorrhea (painful periods).
Mechanism of Action: Suppresses ovulation by inhibiting the release of FSH and LH, thickens cervical mucus to block sperm, and alters the uterine lining to prevent implantation.
Administration: One tablet daily at the same time for 28 consecutive days.8 A new pack is started immediately after the previous one is finished.9
