Estranor is a progestogen-only oral contraceptive, commonly referred to as a “mini-pill.” It is specifically indicated for the prevention of pregnancy in women who may be sensitive to estrogen or who are currently breastfeeding.
Active Ingredient: Levonorgestrel (0.03 mg).
Pharmacologic Class: Progestin-only Contraceptive (POC).
Primary Indication: Continuous daily oral contraception.
Mechanism of Action: Increases the viscosity of cervical mucus to inhibit sperm penetration and alters the endometrial lining to prevent implantation; it may also suppress ovulation in some users.
Administration: One tablet taken orally at the same time every day, without interruption, regardless of the menstrual cycle.
Professional Note: Strict adherence to a 24-hour dosing schedule is critical for maintaining efficacy. If a dose is delayed by more than 3 hours, a backup contraceptive method is recommended for the following 48 hours.
